“The proof of the pudding is in the eating”. Many doms will do well to regularly test their subs, in order to try and find out if what she says or wants is actually that, or if she is repeating things she has seen or heard about elsewhere and is merely copying others. One area to test is this. The phrase “collared slave” is widely spread, especially over the Internet. Question is, does she really want to wear a collar and experience the effects of it. That is where leash testing comes in.

Leash testing is testing her true motivation by indeed placing a collar around her neck, firmly attaching a leash or a chain to it and making her stand, sit or kneel down like this for longer periods of time. “long” is: at least to the point where she will actually start to feel the effects of being restricted to a small space and where she has to ask permission for all sorts of things, for example to go to the bathroom or to be allowed to eat, drink or watch television.

Easier Said Than Done

Experienced doms will be able to tell you lots of stories about things – that might have been important in their sub’s mind – but that, once executed in real life – were not exactly what the sub thought they were. In fact – even though this is not meant disrespectful – quite a few of the discussions around, especially on the Internet, are little more than hollow phrases, that look great on screen, but may be entirely different when performed in real life. And that is when testing motivations becomes important.

Leash testing is relatively easy to do and quite effective. Basically what you is is collar the slave and keep her on a leash which is – for example – connected to the dom’s chair. Now she can move about freely, but not very far. Should she wish to visit the bathroom, she has to ask and will be escorted to it on the leash. If she’s hungry, she’ll again have to ask and will be escorted to the fridge.

The Possibilities Are Endless.

Although the execution is basically simple, this may not be so easy to actually do, especially not for the sub. The lack of freedom will be an attraction in the beginning, but as time progresses may become less and less easy to accept and that is when motivation becomes important.

Also, if it does become too much, that is an opportunity for communication and – may be – renegotiation.

Add On’s

The dom has all sorts of possibilities to increase the gravity of the situation, either by making it last longer or by adding other difficulties, such as being naked, gagged, having to stand or by adding on specific tasks or a specific way to beg, in other words things the sub has to do before she is allowed a favor, such as being allowed a cup of coffee.

Asking for a sacrifice is another way to increase the situation. For example the following bargain: yes, you will be allowed to join the dom at the table for lunch, but you must wear nipple clamps during this period of relative freedom.

Or, yes you may pee, but I will take you to the garden on a leash and you will pee there.

Since this is about testing, not everything has to be easy. In fact, look at it as some sort of exam. And don’t forget: testing WILL eventually help the sub gaining better self-understanding and will be beneficial to her in many other ways, such as finding out what she really wants and needs.

Leash training a slave is much like leash training a dog. Yes, we have a lot more on this in our puppy slave section. Here we will talk you through the basics. A slave only shows her submission when she follows the lead without hesitation. In other words, as long as you still need to pull her or otherwise use force, she still needs more training.

She should follow, even when the dominant holds the leash loosely. The leash should be a signal, not an object of force. The same by the way is true for cuffs. These ideally are designed as a tool to help the slave remember where she should keep her hands, even under the harshest and most difficult of circumstances.

If and when she fights leashes and restraints, her training has not been completed yet and her submission and acceptance is not yet full.
