Pony Play – Identity

For many reasons role identification is everything, when it comes to any form of animal role play. Hence, pony play is no different. There are various reasons why this is so important.

The number one reason is this: through any form of animal role play the submissive is brought into a situation where her submissive (hence sexual as well as many other) emotions are being placed within the context of a specific role. This almost automatically creates a second identity. That as such is not a problem – and in many situation actually a very helpful since it creates a very specific boundaries between the “every day personality” and the “submissive personality”. Doing that can make it a lot easier to accept submissive emotions that – quite frequently – form a paradox with every day life. It may be evident that introducing such a “second identity” requires a very clear identity.

A second reason is that pony play especially is not easy. It requires a strict and rather intense physical and mental training scheme that almost always calls for daily training and maintenance. Hence it must be very clear to the pony what she is and that her role must be clear in every aspect.

Most ponies – and in this sense they are no different from most submissive’s – have a problem with going “in” and “out” scene – in other words the boundaries between real life and fantasy are unclear. Pony play, since it is so intense, digs deep into every day life. The training, the physical and mental changes are the main factors that actually call for this. Hence the “second identity” has to become a close friend, a twin sister so to speak.

Choosing a Race

The easiest way to create a clear identity is to chose a specific race for your pony. Is she going to be an Arabic pony, or a Prezwalski pony (yes that race does exist) or anything in between? It is a good idea to make sure the race (and color and character scheme that goes with it) overlaps as much as possible with the ponies own personality.

Next, she can easily start to adapt this race, by studying it, learning about it and – for example – (slowly and gradually) changing her wardrobe to the color scheme that fits the race. If needed, she could change her hair color as well as her make up. By doing this her pony identity will gradually become a close friend, a sister and eventually – which is the objective – the two will merge into one and the same and the pony identity will find a place within the total spectra of her personality.

Choosing a Name

A specific pony name will also help to both identify with the role as well as making a clear difference between the pony role and the rest of her life. The name can be anything of course, as long as it has a “pony ring” to it. As soon as the pony name is being used, she is “in role” and that is how the trainer/owner can easily coach his pony through the many hurdles of having to chose between life and pony life. as well as making the constant switches.
