Steel Restraints : Part 2

There is no need to hide it.
Steel toys and gear are expensive. But, they are usually worth every penny. Steel not only has e very exciting ring to it, it lasts forever, so your investment is an investment for a lifetime. If you are a bit careful when spending money, that is.

Let us start with a major misconception. Many in the BDSM world claim, every steel object should be made out of surgical steel. That is ridiculous. And ridiculously expensive. It is true for toys, that will be inserted, such as in the mouth, vagina or anus. But certainly not true for most other things. Collars, cuffs and other restraints actually can be made out of the steel, the nutrient industry uses. That is only a notch lower in quality than surgical steel bet a LOT cheaper. Since going down just a tiny bit in quality will cut the price in half. Tests within the BDSM community have shown that this quality steel can be used without problems, such as irritation or allergic reactions.

WHERE DO I GO?

A select number of fetish shops actually sells steel toys and gear, but these are usually very expensive. Your best option is to find a kink-friendly metal worker and within the biker and auto world these are usually not exactly difficult to find.

When either buying or commissioning you should be aware of the fact that steel is very unforgiving and that the slightest miscalculation in your design may render your future toy useless or inoperative. So be careful and best find someone experienced to help you.

A good example of this is that many people (including designers) tend to forget that limbs, necks and other body parts are not circular and that you should adjust the shape of cuffs, collars and openings in stocks and guves for example to the shape and dimensions of the limb or body part they have to hold.

Whatever you do, opt for stainless steel, so you won’t have to fight the constant battle against corrosion (although corroded chains for example actually do have an appeal).
