Anatomy of Suspension – Positions

The most frequently asked question: if I am not supposed to use a tackle, how do I bring someone up. The fact is: you don’t. You change the position. This is what you do.

Horizontal positions (belly up or down)

Have the recipient stand and tie the main suspension ropes (these will usually be the torso ones). You need a minum of three, one in the middle and one on either end. Tie the middle one first and before you procede, secure this one to the beam. That provides a sense of safety for the recipient. Now tie the next two. (If eventually the suspension – for example – is to be from the wrists and ankles only, you need one extra rope around the middle that you can remove later).

For a belly down position next have the recipient bend over and tie the rope, closet to the head, to the beam. If you like you can now also tie the arms to the beam. For a belly up position estimate the length of rope that will need to be between the body and the beam once the recipient is suspended (you can adjust this later). Tie this rope (the one closest to the head) to the beam and do the same for the hands if you like to do this now.

For a both positions stand in between the parted legs, grab them and bring them up. When roughly in position, grab third rope with one hand while supoorting the remaining leg and tie it to the beam. Proceed with adding other suspension ropes nedeed and adjust the tension of the different ropes until the desired position is achieved and only when ready removeany temporary rope, you may have used.

Bringing her up: Most suspension elements are brought in place and tied to the beam. The legs go up last. This proces in itself will create a variety of positions that the giver will want to explore before the suspension is finalized. This in itself can be a very intens form of erotic play.

Vertical position (head up)

Have the recipient stand on something (a crate or a futon) and tie the bondage. Make sure to start with the top rope and tie this to the beam so the recipient is secured, but do NOT make this any wrist ropes, since you don’t want the hands over the head for too long to avoid the possible risk of fainting and unnecessary fatique. In fact, tie arms last if they are to be above the head. When satisfied and confident, simply remove the crate or futon.

An alternative will work for bondages with folded legs. In this case, tie the bondage while the recipient is standing but save the legs for last. For the finale, first fold one leg and tie it in a folded position, then do the other one.

Inverted vertical position (head down)For an inverted position you need a helping hand. This can be a friend if that is acceptable, but it needs to be a pretty strong one, since this would mean carrying the weight of the recipient until the bondage is completed. Much easier is to use a table on wheels. Have the recipient lay on the table and tie the entire bondage or most of it, depending on the bondage you have chosen. When ready, simply role the table away (carefully and support the head when doing this!!!) and complete the bondage if necessary.

Note: Using a table on wheels may also be a good idea for a giver who has back problems or is simply not strong enough to do the lifting, required for the horizontal positions, or in the event you are not experienced enough yet to work ropes with one hand.
