One Rope Prison

The one rope prison actually isn’t a Japanese bondage, but a favorite of 1950′s English bondage icon John Willie. Still, we are explaining it here, because it is again an excellent way to learn about the looping and splitting techniques and, for the inexperienced recipient, to get a feel for what being restrained is about. You need: again a willing partner and a 5 meter/yard rope (or the equivalent from your personal rope set).

Step 1

Have the recipient sit down on the floor, legs pulled up and wrists next to the ankles (on the outsides).

Double up your rope and wrap it once around the wrists and ankles.

Pull the ends through the loop in the middle of the legs.

No tightness required.

You will want to leave some space in between all limbs for later use.

Make sure the ropes are nicely positioned alongside each other and not crossing.

Step 2

Repeat the above process one time.

This wrap should be above your first one.

Pull both ends of the rope through the newly formed loop.

Make sure the tension of both windings is even and not tight.

Again, make sure all rope windings are neatly aligned next to each other and not over each other or twisted.

Ropes should be ABOVE the joints (ankles and wrists) for safety reasons.

Step 3

Wind both ends around the previous windings two or three times (depending on the tightness you are looking for).

Make sure not to make things overly tight.

Bring the ends to either side.

As aesthetics are an important part of Japanese bondage, work neatly.

The more beautiful a bondage looks, the more effective it is.

Trying to do a fast, rough job won’t do it at all.

Step 4

On either side feed an end in between the leg and the arm.

At this point you will also want to make certain your windings are well above the ankle and wrist joints in order to avoid unnecessary pain, arterial blockage and potential harm to the joints.

Also, make sure all ropewindings are neatly next to each other and not crossing or twisted, so your end result will look beautiful.

As always, there is no hurry.

Over time you’ll learn to do all this very quickly, but for now it is important to go slow and work neatly.

Nawashi – no matter how experienced – will practise these basic techniques over and over again, untill they can do it with their eyes closed and regardless their own position (in front or behind their partner).

An experienced Nawashi feels rather than sees if his ropes, windings and bondages are nice, adequate, tight enough and safe.

Bondage is like being able to maintain your gun with your eyes closed.

Step 5

On either side wrap the rope around the previous windings three or four times.

Again the number of windings now will determine the tightness of the bondage.

Secure the ends with a Magnus Hitch in as many windings as you like.

A Magnus Hitch will tighten itself as tension is increased on the rope.

In other words, the harder the recipient tries to wriggle out of the bondage, the tighter the knots will become and the more difficult any escape attempt will become.

Step 6

This is more or less what your windings should look like.

If more tightness is required at a later stage, that will be easy to do.

Simply quickly undo your endwindings and rewind them again, only either tighter or through using more windings.

The end result

Here you are, your bondage is finished.

Your partner won’t be able to go anywhere, but can sit comfortably and experience the effects of being restrained.
