Anatomy of Suspension – The Cricket

The Cricket – the musicians’ musician. Shibari performing artists love this position because it looks spectacular and most Nawashi love it because it offers them a chance to really show off their bondage skills. The Cricket is a midlevel bondage predominantly to the giver, since it does requires expert tieing for the recipient to be able to maintain for any length of time. If tied correctly, a reasonably experienced recipient can hold it for quite some time (not if the bondage is tied inverted, since there is a maximum to inverted bondages in general).picto

The suspension can be in any position: head up or down, belly up or down, diagonal, whichever you prefer. It simply calls for creativity, which as another main advantage of this postion.

The only requirement is that both the arms and legs of the Dorei are folded. Other than that, all you do is make sure all the different layers of the bondages are connected to a suspension rope and you are there.

The Cricket is an excellent example of the layer-approach. To tie the Cricket, this is what you do:

(a) Start with the central support rope. These – in this case – are a series of windings around the waist. You may opt for Sakuranbo as your central suspension support, but in that case make sure the ropes in between the legs are on either side of the labia and not in between them, to avoid doing damage to the clitoris. An adapted version of Sakaranbo (without the rope in between the legs) would be an even better choice. When done, have the recipient standing and tie this to the beam to anchor her.

(b) For the arms you have a variety of options. For The Cricket in its original format, Ahiro is used (the folded arms bondage), but you are free to use other techniques, such as Emono. The trick is to (eventually) target as many erogenous zones and Tsubo as you can. The suspension should end in a crescendo of erotic stimulation.

(c) If you did not use Emono for the arms, now it is time to concentrate on the breast area. In its simplest form you could opt for Shinju.

(d) At this stage you have to make a decision about the suspension position. If this is to be vertical or inverted (head down) interconnect the breast section and the lower section, because these will work as a harness. Both horizontal suspensions are demanding and cannot last for very long, due to the effects of the weight pull. For a vertical position, all you do now is create as many support points as you can through using many suspension ropes (anything between five and seven support points will do, depending on the abilities of the recipient.

(e) The recipient goes up through folding the legs, using the Ahiro (for legs) bondage. Make sure to tie the legs to the beam as well.

(f) Once the recipient is up, start adding more bondages to your sustension, such as a hair bondage or a gag bondage, maybe the toes. Much now depends on the position you have chosen – oif you want to do a lot, opt for a horizontal position
