Seclusion is a technique where mediation and physical effects are combined to bring the sub into a form of a trance. The technique, that usually involves restraining the sub in rubber suits, body bags and/or saran wrap, certainly is not without risks and should not be performed on people suffering from heart or other potentially fatal diseases, such as diabetes. If you want to make sure your sub can handle this, at least have her checked up by your doctor for the use of saunas, because the effects are very similar.
Seclusion involves three elements:
→ Breath control
→ Sweating
→ Total separation from the outside world
These three elements need to be combined to achieve the required effect. Usually so called body bags, rubber suits and masks are used to achieve the effect, which is a combination of full concentration, light and controlled hyper ventilation and controlled overheating of the body, causing heavy sweating. The sub will reach a mental state that may be compared to hypnoses or deep meditation.
Warning: this is not a game for inexperienced people and this document is not a do it yourself course, but merely a description. You need to be taught how to do this by an experienced Dom and NEVER do a seclusion session without having at least one extra experienced dominant around to supervise, even if you are experienced yourself.
Or, as the highly experienced owners of the only Dutch club – experienced in seclusion sessions – put it in a television interview: “Games like these KILL if people enter into it without experience and knowledge. This falls into the don’t-do-this-at-home category.”
Concentration and Meditation
When totally wrapped up in a body bag, a specialized rubber (inflatable) suit, mask, duly strapped and usually packed in more than one layer the sub is totally helpless, unable to give any signals and totally depending on the Dom. She can not see, hardly hear anything, hardly move and usually even speaking is almost impossible. She will be entirely cut off from the outside world and quite often for a longer period of time. Seclusion sessions usually take several hours and the sub is totally left in piece. No other play or impulses are added.
The total separation from the outside world, combined with only limited breathing capability (usually achieved by the use of a gasmask, (inflatable) gags or even rubber hoses and valves) will give her a very realistic feeling of total submission, basically coming down to putting her life in the hands of her dominant partner. The breath control aspects by the way are usually more a mental than a real physical thing. There will usually be sufficient breathing possibilities but the combination of tight restraints, the tightness of the suit or the wrapping and a slight obstacle like a hose or a gag will create the illusion of limited breathing capabilities.
This will bring her entirely into her own fantasies. The more effective the separation from the outside world is (by covering the entire body, blocking all senses) and tight restraints, the better the meditation effects.
Physical Effects
The hypnotic and meditation effects of seclusion are highly influenced by the physical effects: the need to fully concentrate on breathing as well as the fact that the body is heating up and starts to sweat heavily.
It has certain healthy side effects since the sweating allows the body to get rid of waste-products and toxins, just as in a sauna. The heating up of the body causes an effect that can be compared to the dizziness and numbness one feels when having a high fever. Fever may cause a patient to go into a state of mild subconsciousness and delirium. That is exactly what happens here as well. Seclusion – as a result of this – may bring out all sorts of hidden emotions.
The feeling of heaving limited breathing capabilities only adds up to these effects.
