Bondage Furniture : Saint Andrews’ Cross

It is one of these BDSM fetish icons, however, usually restricted to commercial clubs and dungeons and photo studios: The Saint Andrews’ Cross. Unless you have your own, private and relatively specious dungeon, a cross will remain an object for fantasy.

Securing Your Furniture

First this: before you are even planning to secure your slave on a piece of bondage furniture, such as a cross, make sure the furniture itself is safely secured.

Bondage furniture – crosses especially – have a tendency to live a life of their own if they are not properly secured. They may slip, turn or fall and all that is very unsafe.

Besides, you will probably spare your slave a heart attack by securing your furniture. Nothing is more scary than being tied onto something that suddenly starts to slip or fall!

You do need to do some mathematics here. In order to be well within safety margins add the total weight of the cross to the bodyweight of your slave and multiply this by four. Whatever you use to secure the cross to the wall or ceiling should be able to at least hold that weight, in order to be able to deal with peak tension, caused by unexpected movement. Safely secure your cross with strong wall or ceiling bolts or rings, either screwed on directly or used to tie (or chain) the cross to the security bolts.

Quite a few people connect their cross to a tackle. This means that this tackle will have to be able to cope with eight times the weight it normally does and if you are planning to hoist the the cross off the floor you’ll need to calculate sixteen times the weight is can normally carry. Please be aware that the latter especially is usually impossible to achieve without special construction requirements.

Fighting The Cross

Security and safety are especially important, since the main appeal of the cross is that the salve can struggle and fight against it. The solid wood behind her will usually feel like something she can find and that is very likely what she will do. Fighting the restraints is something quite a few submissive women love, because it combines very well with “damsel in distress fantasies” and sex and humiliation.

This is also why – once she is securely tied – you should be all that hasty with taking her down again. She’s safe, she can spend a lot of time on the cross and the best thing you can do is to let her do exactly that. The longer she’s on it, the more intense her fantasy will kick in.
