It may not sound as fancy as a leather covered bondage table or a chrome cross, but it is one of the oldest – and probably the most versatile – pieces of bondage furniture you will ever own. And … it comes cheap too and is readily available: the ladder.

Many tend to overlook the simple solutions. You can buy a ladder – wood or aluminum – from every hardware store. You don’t have to hide them, nobody will suspect that it in fact is your dungeon equipment, they are sturdy, durable and safe by definition, easy to store and you can use them to tie up the slave in probably 100 or more different positions for even more forms of punishment or just plan fun. And … they are the oldest piece of dungeon equipment in the world. No medieval play chamber was ever complete without one.

Buying Your Ladder

You will probably want to buy a wooden ladder, simply because there is a lower risk of sharp edges, hence injury or bruises and it is a good idea to check it for splinters, sharp edges and such first and maybe sandpaper it where needed.

Painting it in a more BDSM color-setting is of course an option.

Height is matter of personal preference, but the average dom will want to have one that allows for binding the sub with her hands above her head, so it needs to be about a yard longer than your slave is.

Do not buy one that is too long, because these tend to loose the stability that you will also be looking for.

A product called “ToolDip” (liquid rubber) will come in handy. Dip the footrests of your ladder in it (if it doesn’t come with rubber anti-slip pads) to create more stability.

You may also want to add some hooks or rings on strategic corners or simply drill holes in the sides and steps, so you can attach ropes easily and quickly.

So, your ladder probably only needs a few touch ups to make it suitable for bondage use, but after that, you’ll have a piece of bondage furniture that will beat most others any time, because it is so versatile.

Next to that, since it is stable, easy to use and can be placed anywhere, it allows for sufficient support for the slave, which means it allows for longer sessions and you can set up your instant dungeon everywhere: living room, bedroom, basement and even outside of you like.

The only thing stopping you will probably be your own creativity.
