General precautions
The use of latex gloves when using your hands is a must, to protect yourself, to protect your sub, her insides and for hygienic reasons. Never move your hands, fingers, penis or toys from the anus to the vagina without thoroughly washing them first!
There are health risks for both dom and sub if you do not use gloves: the dom may transmit diseases or damage the tender inside tissue and the sub may very well transmit diseases to the dom, simply through the content of her intestines.
Your main health risk in this area is the E-coli bacteria (Escherichia Coli) – responsible for an important part of your digestive process. E-coli however also have a tendency to literally eat vitamins. As such, the E-coli is responsible for the vast majority of what is generally known as food-intoxication and the abdominal and stomach problems, related to this. These are inflammations of the abdominal organs and membranes. Salmonella is a member of the rather large E-coli family for example and so is typhoid. Insufficient hygiene – such as not using latex gloves during anal play – may cause this very “versatile” family of bacteria – who also happen to be absolute survival experts – to be transmitted, either directly into the mouth, vagina or through food (contact-spreading) – as well as through toys (see below). Food poisoning is considered harmless by many, but that is a very questionable statement. Quite a few people actually die from food-poisoning, especially if they have another disease, are a member of risk groups (such as elderly people or pregnant women) or as a result of dehydration. Hence it is not something that should be underestimated. All of this can be prevented easily when taking the following precautions:
♦ Wear disposable latex gloves and dispose of them immediately after use.
♦ Protect toys with condoms that, again, should be disposed of immediately after use.
♦ Upon multiple penetration of the anus, always change gloves and condoms first – never use any of them twice, not even in the same area.
Don’t touch anything after anal play, but immediately dispose of the gloves and condoms and thoroughly wash your hands, penis (if this has been inside) and internally used toys. You should especially avoid contact with the vagina, mouth, internally used sexual toys, food and of course your other gloves and condoms until you have washed thoroughly, using a disinfecting soap.
All this is not only important from an hygienic point of view, but also to protect yourself against HIV-infection (Aids).
Cover your penis and toys with condoms at all times, to protect yourself, your sub and your toys.
When penetrating a partner you do not know well, use a double or even a triple condom and do buy condoms designed for anal play (Gay Safe for example).
Item number two in any form of anal play is lubricant. Lots of it. Don’t be shy about using lubricant! Be as generous as you can and add repeatedly, especially during finger play and fisting. Always use water based lubricant only. Oil based lubricants, as well as butter (don’t laugh, this is still frequently used), baby oil and all massage oils will ruin latex and render your protection useless.
Rimming without dental dams is outright unsafe.
Before finger play or fisting – even when wearing gloves – file your nails to avoid damaging tissue.
Wash thoroughly before and after. Some people prefer the use of enemas before anal play to clean out the area. The best way to do this is the old-fashioned way. Use an enema bag and fill it with about a mug full of lukewarm water or milk, or buy a Fleets enema kit at the store.
Health Risks
Additionally, the following things are best not done:
♦anal play during illness of any kind
♦using objects or toys that were not specifically designed for anal use
♦applying pressure of any kind (the anus will swallow your finger, even fist, or toys by itself)
Anal sex should be avoided if one has hemorrhoids, infections or small wounds around the anal area for various reasons. One is the HIV risk, another is that your movements around the area may spread bacteria from the inside to the outside and last but not least, it usually hurts.
Except for the HIV-risk, ejaculating inside is not a problem at all.
