Reef Knots: Your Two Best Friends
Two knots are paramount when it comes to bondage, since these are the two safest, easiest knots that you will use many, many times. No other knot is as safe as these two are. They can be untied under strain, when wet, you can tie ropes of different thickness to one another, you name it.
Make it a habit to practice these knots over and over again, until you can make them with your eyes closed and find yourself automatically resorting to these knots, when toeing whatever rope for whatever purpose.
Trick number one in effective bondage is to keep it simple and stupid. Instead of trying to use all sorts of fancy knots, you can work faster and safer when using only one or two simple knots. The good thing about that is that it also allows you to concentrate on the erotic and BDSM-aspects of your session as opposed to the technical stuff and – in this case – getting the knots right.
Reef Knot:
The reef knot especially has a few major advantages:
* It will safely connect ropes of different thickness and material, so you do not have to worry about using thicker and thinner ropes and not being able to untie them again later.
* You can get a reef knot out of anything, no matter how hard it has been pulled and how tight it has become.
* The reef knot will also come off when the rope is wet, which makes it the ideal knot to use in the genital area, when things get messy or – for example, during water ports.
Number 1 and most frequently used knot is the reef knot, a.k.a. square knot, a.k.a. flat knot. You can use it for almost anything in any situation, it is safe, it will not come undone unexpectedly and it is indeed flat, hence produces a more or less square pressure on the skin so there is hardly any chance of blocking veins or irritating nerve ends.
Slipping Reef Knot:
This is a slipping reef knot, i.e. the twin brother of the standard reef. This knot is excellent and specifically designed for fast release. It is the preferred knot to use when, for example, toeing a wrist or an ankle to the pole, a beam or a bed post. In case of an emergency, all you need to do is pull the loose end and the rope is untied (of course you will want to keep that end well away from your subs hands).
