Knots: The Anchor Hitch
Many people use cuffs instead of rope around the ankles and wrists. Especially if you are inexperienced, that is a very good idea, since it is safer and the risk of unwanted discomfort is a lot less. However, from a bondage point of view this leaves you with the question of how to tie your ropes to rings of the leather cuffs.
That is what this Anchor Hitch is for. Using hitches instead of knots frequently makes sense, since a hitch is easier to untie. This anchor hitch also has another advantage over, for example, a reef knot. It will not deform under stress and wrap itself around the ring, making the process of untiring your sub no fun at all.
The anchor hitch will come off easily and quickly, especially as soon as there is no tension anymore.
A Few Emergency Hints
All the knots we teach you here are easy to untie. However, for various reasons knots may sometimes be a bitch to untie, usually as a result of tension or unexpected moves. Here are some handy hints to deal with that:
* From a prevention point of view, always use ropes with the same diameter. Teeing a thinner rope to a thicker one will usually make it a lot more difficult to untie the knot later.
* Wet ropes are very difficult to untie. Try blow drying the knot before trying to untie it, that usually helps.
* Rubbing the knot between your hands or massaging it may sometimes do the trick.
* Experienced bondage masters will always have a sailor’s knife at hand. Such a knife incorporates what is called a marline spike that you can push into the knot to help untie it. Be careful though, sailor’s knives and the spikes can do a lot of harm to your partner if you are not familiar with their use. A bit of “off sub” practice may be a very good idea.
* In any case, keep a pair of scissors at hand for emergency purposes. Ropes can be replaced. Bandage scissors have the big advantage that they have a blunt front end, so there is a lot less risk you accidentally hurt your partner while cutting through the ropes. Bandage scissors however may not always be tough enough to deal with thick ropes.
